Wii is still on the top of the sales. Wii appeals to parents and casual gamers. Wii has an unique and amazing control scheme. However, does Wii have the appeal to keep sales up in the declining global economy? I think not. (more…)
Today, I’ve done a few things to the blog.
First, Not that it matters much to you, but the blog has been updated to 2.6.5, which plugs 3 security holes.
Second, the Coding Project website has been updated to the Main Site’s theme.
Finally, the link at the top for the podcast automatically redirects to http://pod.old-computer.org.
I may add a few more improvements soon, but no promises ;-).
I had the opportuinity to play around with a PowerBook G4 17″ laptop today, so I figured I’d snap a few pics.
It’s the day when most of America’s people get up at 3AM, still groaning from last night’s turkey dinner, and get in line in front of Best Buy to get the greatest deal on a HDTV. Yep, you read that right, it’s Black Friday. Black Friday is one of the few days where buying a computer may be cheaper than paying for your weekly grocery bill.
So what do you do for black friday? Sit at home in front of your computer watching all of the websites for the greatest deals? Get up right when the stores open to see if you can get there quickly enough to get a good deal? Or wait all night in a tent in front of Walmart to get that $300 laptop?
Personally, I’m part of the group who wakes up about half an hour before stores open and get there just in time to not have to stand out in the cold.
As some of you may know, I purchased an Aluminum Apple MacBook around 1 month ago. Before the purchase of my MacBook, I was solely a Windows guy. However, after a month with my Mac, I’ve found OS X 10.5 (Leopard) to be superior to Windows in almost every aspect. Along with the software, things are greatly improved when Apple designs a computer, as it “just works,” and the industrial design is beautiful.

A MacRumors forum membor, Brett33, bought a Prototype MacBook Air on eBay. Now, he’s selling it again on ebay. The Prototype itself has several differences, like an old style keyboard, black aluminum bottom, and slightly different trackpad, along with no official “Air” branding.

So, I figured I’d merge the files stored on my flash drive with the ones in my documents folder on my mac. So, I copy them over. OSX prompts me to replace, and I thought it would just replace the files that were already there, not the whole folder. Now, I’m out probably 4 hours of work, and there’s no way to get it back (I’ve already tried all of those recovery programs. I’m enabling time machine right this minute, and I’m backing up to my windows drive (on my server), using this nifty command in terminal:
defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
Also, following the steps in this guide can greatly enhance your chances of success.
Windows 7, shown at PDC, has one cool feature… the SuperBar! It is a bigger task bar that loses the text (hmm… can anyone say OSX dock?), and is better for touchscreen computers. It also has plenty of transparency. Anyways, Microsoft passed out a build of 7 at PDC to attendents. This build, however, doesn’t include the SuperBar. Most thought that enabling it was a lost cause. However, this person didn’t. Say hello to the SuperBar in 6801.
Here’s the important part of the post:
Simply download a copy of a tool I whipped up for either x86 or x64 (untested thus far), drop it into your Windows\ directory and execute the following commands as an Administrator in a command prompt window:
- takeown /f %windir%\explorer.exe
- cacls %windir%\explorer.exe /E /G MyUserName:F (replacing MyUserName with your username)
- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f
- start unlockProtectedFeatures.exe
After changing the protected feature lock state, you can re-launch the shell by clicking the Launch button.
