Site Updated!

As you probably noticed, the site has undergone a big redesign. However, a redesign isn’t without its flukes. What do you think of the site? The new logo?

Please, tell me your opinion in the comments.

I’ll also probably be making some small changes in the upcoming few days, too.

One thing I will be trying to correct in the near future is the fact that the background for the page is almost 1MB. Quite a download.

One more thing; this theme will eventually be drawn out to all parts of the blog, including the podcasts, projects, and possibly a new landing/home page.

Switching to Windows Server 2008

As some of you may know, this site is hosted at home on my Windows Vista box. However, as I bought my MacBook, I’ve decided that I need to run a more solid OS on my Server. So, In comes Server 2008. I’m eligable for the Microsoft DreamSpark Promotion (read: Free Server 2008), so I figure I might as well get some use out of it.

Anyways, with that said, there might be a little downtime in the next couple weekends.

It’s time for a redesign!

I know that I haven’t posted anything super useful in a while, and to tell you the truth, making blog posts every day gets tedious and looses its fun after a while. Therefore, I have decided to redesign this blog. It may consist of a pre-built theme, or maybe I’ll make my own (doubtful, but it could happen ;-) ). Anyways, it won’t change for a while, but it will sometime soon… I also have another big announcement to make, look for that in the next few weeks.

AJAX Stuff Disabled… For Now

I decided to disable the AJAXed Wordpress plugin for now, as it is causing more problems than it is worth.

However, maybe we will see its return in the future.

Old-Computer has been AJAXED!!

I just installed a new plugin to add a little bit of AJAX to the blog. The main thing that it does is load posts inline, so you can click “Continue Reading” and it doesn’t make your browser reload. Give it a try then comment on this post with any bugs/opinions on it.

Registrations Enabled!

Finally, I have figured out a way to bypass the fact that I don’t have mail() enabled on my server! Thanks to the Wordpress Plugin, Register Plus, you can now register on my blog! Just don’t expect to be recovering any passwords anytime soon… (If you need a new password, feel free to contact jeff@old-computer.org)

One more thing. All registrations must be approved by me. However, that process shouldn’t take too long.

Site Speed?

Old-computer, and its affiliated sites, are hosted from my server. This server is located in Michigan, United States. I need to know how fast each page loads for you, and if it is acceptable (or comparable to other sites). Please post in the comments ASAP.

Microsoft just doesn’t have that “cool factor” anymore..

This is an actual picture from Microsoft’s website, that admits that they’re not cool enough to run on OSX or linux.

What to Post?

OK, In the next up-coming week, I have some problems to deal with. First, I need to know if posting a funny image is a good thing to do on this blog, or if you want some more techy stuff. Next, I’m not gonna be able to make a post every day next week, so I’ll be playing a little catch-up. Anyways, I need you to tell me (in the comments or at jeff@old-computer.org) what I should do for future posts. Thanks!
